The pandemic and recent global events changed much of what we know about the recruitment and retention of staff in international schools. It forced us to use technology in ways that we never dreamed possible. The pace of change is erratic. The economic impact and immobility of staff questioned the compensation and benefits strategy we followed for years. The two workshop sessions will provide you with tools and strategies to respond to the evolving needs of our industry based on lessons learned from the American School of Doha, Qatar.

ISS School Operations presents a two-part interactive workshop for Human Resources professionals, Business Managers and school administrators who are contemplating the evolving HR landscape and how to adapt HR management strategy and practices to best support your school’s needs. These interactive workshops will be led by international schools Human Resource experts Lia Cahsai and Robin Young. This series will offer participants interactive live sessions and engagement opportunities with peers and ISS seasoned leaders between the two live sessions.

Part 1: Positioning Your HR Department to Respond to Evolving Staffing Needs

In this first session, we take you through the most important HR changes in the areas of recruitment and employee onboarding activities. You will be provided with guidance and options to continue to sustain the HR function in an unpredictable environment. We will compare pre- and post-pandemic HR practices examining how we must adapt our service provision in the new normal.

What we will cover in this session:

  • New approaches to recruitment strategy and practices
  • Onboarding and re-boarding perspectives

Part 2: A Sustainable Future

In this session, we will be revisiting the compensations and benefits strategy whilst considering employment law implications of contracts to ensure appropriate school governance.

  • Salaries and benefits to sustain your school
  • Conditions for terminating contracts
  • Sustainable benefits and insurance rewards
